Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): Words of war continue unabated between the State units of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on religious line wherein the former today accused NPCC of trying to ‘wash dirty linen’ to garner few votes in the next elections.
BJP general secretary (Media) and spokesman, Jaangsillung Gonmei, said NPCC’s pretensions to be a concerned purist Christian diehard after consuming all the corruptions in the most anti Christian ways in the last six decades to spite the BJP in expectation of a few votes in the next elections was non-digestible.
It accused Congress of playing religious sentiments for a few votes by foregoing its principles and ethics. It said the presumed fear of the NPCC president K Therie was only a pretension trying to harp on the peoples’ mind which would not materialize into anything fruitful. To stir clear of the contention, Gonmei said BJP is a political unit of a national political party with lotus as its symbol, adding BJP has nothing to do with the NPCC’s obsession of ‘trishul.’ While clarifying that lotus and not ‘trishul’ was planted in Nagaland for the last three terms of 14 years, he advised NPCC not to use trisul and lotus inter-alia according to its whims to hammer its weightless points.
“BJP has memberships from all communities and religions including Christians and none are opposed to Christianity nor working against it,” BJP statement said.
On NPCC’s president squarely blaming the BJP for every wrongful acts or comments of the society and religious groups, Gonmei clarified that the statement ‘Christian will be wiped out by 2021” was made by a functionary of the religious organisation Dharm Jagran Samiti in 2014 and not by the BJP. Likewise, it advised NPC president to note responsibly that BJP do not associate nor subscribe with any and every religious comments of other social religious groups nor are responsible for them.
“If the NPCC president wants to feign so much concern for Christian welfare elsewhere, it should be noted that a Christian is not deterred by external threats but like Daniel, can sleep with the lions and walk through fire walls even if anything may throw up. Only hypocrites would feel threatened,” it said adding “What is most important is to spiritually strengthen one’s own self and society with good works and actions which thus safeguard the believers. Not lame pretentious concerns.”
On Naga political issue, it said Congress had 8 Prime Ministers and ruled for 64 years, while the BJP had 2 Prime Minister for 8 years running. Considering the long innings, it said Congress leaders were not as serious as the BJP Leaders but used Naga issue as leverage for their electoral gains.
It said BJP is serious about bringing positive developments in the State at par with the rest of the country on the principles of “Sabke Saath, Sabke Vikas” (Together with all, Development for all).
