Biren Singh announces Rs. 325 cr. development package for two districts

Imphal, Nov. 15 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday announced a Rs. 325 crore development package for Tamenglong and Noney districts during his maiden visit to Tamenglong district headquarters,150km west of Imphal, after becoming the Chief Minister of the state.
Addressing a huge public gathering at Tamenglong lower ground, Chief Minister Biren said the package for development of the said districts include FCI Godown, Kaiphundai to Tousem road construction, water supply, rural electrification, schemes for differently-able persons and widows, women’s market complex etc.
Expressing concern for the lack of drinking water supply facilities in the district, he pointed out the need to construction of road from Kaiphundai to Tousem headquarters besides taking up Tamenglong-Haflong Road construction projects in the near future.
Stating his government is committed to the transparency by opening a grievances cell, he also highlighted the government’s move to electrify villages with LED Bulbs by 2018.
He then appealed the government servants to stay at their posting station for which a transit hostel will be constructed soon for those staffs who find difficulties in finding a home-stay in the hills district.
The chief minister who was accompanied by Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar and his council of ministers also inaugurated the much awaited 50 bedded Tamenglong District Hospital at Duigailong besides laying foundation stone for the construction of a 5000 MT capacity FCI Godown and women’s market shed in the name of Rani Gaidinliu near the PWD Inspection Bungalow.
He also informed that the central has agreed to sanction Rs. 25,000 crore for the Road Development under the Act East Policy of PM Narendra Modi which will cover Tamenglong District.
To experience the difficulties faced by the people of Tamenglong and Noney districts, Biren and council of ministers drove down to hilly terrain of Tamenglong districts via Noney district headquarters along the popular Imphal-Jiribam sector of National Highway 37 to reach Tamenglong town this morning where they were accorded a warm reception by a large people with traditional dances and songs.
Earlier in his Ukhrul visit on April 11, he announced a package of Rs 201 crore worth development projects. Biren had also already announced Rs 202 crores for development packages for Senapati district, Rs 185 crores for Kangpokpi and Rs 300 crores for Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts.
After the day’s public meeting the chief minister and his team also held a cabinet meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow prior to their return to Imphal journey by a helicopter.
