KOHIMA, MAY 28: Workers and officials of the education sectors in the state have requested the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association and the Nagaland State Secondary Field Officers’ Federation to suspend their ongoing agitation demanding total bifurcation. Organizations representing workers of the Education department said on Saturday that the issue was ‘a continuous process and needs to be studied with all seriousness by the department as well as the government level first.’

Representatives of various organizations under the School Education department, the minister in-charge of the department, Yitachu, and departmental officials met in Kohima on Saturday, May 28.
The organizations represented at the meeting included the Nagaland School Education Administrative Officers’ Association, Nagaland Government Higher Secondary School Employees’ Association, All Nagaland Graduate Primary Teachers’ Association, All Nagaland Hindi Teachers’ Union, All Nagaland Physical Education Teachers’ Association, All Nagaland SSA Teachers’ Association, and the Nagaland RMSA Teachers’ Association 2013.

Issues pertaining to the welfare of the teachers and administrative officers under the department were deliberated during the meeting. The issues included promotion avenues, service rules and cadre-review, among others.

The minister admitted that ‘too many problems’ were confronting the department. But, he assured that the issues raised by the members would be looked into. He also requested the various associations to pursue their demands with the department ‘properly’ before resorting to agitations, which he said ‘ultimately victimizes the students.’

Following thorough discussions, the house adopted a three-point resolution: the members present would request the ANSTA and NSSFOF to suspend their ongoing agitation on total bifurcation as the issue was ‘a continuous process and needs to be studied with all seriousness by the department as well as the government level.’

The representatives of the organizations also expressed ‘concern for the students’ and resolved to continue taking classes with ‘all sincerity and dedication’; that the government would review the new restructuring of 2011 along with a cadre-review so as ‘to deliver justice to all the employees at all levels at the earliest.’
