Senapati, May 22 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, two cabinet ministers from Senapati district and a number of parliamentary secretaries and officials, inaugurated the two day Barak spring festival in front of a large gathering here at the hill town, 60 km north of the state capital on Monday.

The 5 year old festival organised to protect and conserve the important river-Barak which originates from Liyai village of the district will be organised at the state level from next year as the chief minister made announcement during the day’s opening function.

Two months old Bharatiya Janata Party led coalition government’s chief minister also announced Rs 202 crores projects for Senapati district.

The announcement came 26 days after the announcement of Rs 185 crores worth projects for Kangpokpi district and 41 days after Rs 201 crores worth projects for Ukhrul district.

In his maiden address at Senapati ground after becoming Chief Minister, Biren said the projects to be taken up in Senapati district include construction of IIIT complex at Mayangkhang, a women’s market, public health centres,Inspection bunglow etc.Besides the new government also promised to hand over construction of Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway and Tadubi-Toloi state highway to National Highway Infrastructure development corporation limited.

Recalling the recent visit of Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie Leizietsu and his team to Imphal, he said his Nagaland counterpart has also agreed to develop the existing Manipur state road transport corporation complex in Dimapur as per their understanding as the state plans to revive state transportation services sooner or later. On the other hand the existing Nagaland state transport complex in Imphal is to be developed by Manipur government,he added.

He also informed that the Japanese ambassador Kenji Hiramtsu who was in Imphal to attend a world war anniversary function in Imphal on Saturday and Sunday had expressed their willingness to develop Kohima-Imphal highway with Japanese technology.

Reiterating the need to introduce a topographical need based budget for the state, he said that the new government’s mission is to develop a balance society where everyone in the state can enjoy equal opportunity in all aspects.

Issues will be there in our life, but we should create an environment where our children can go for proper education facilities, says Chief Minister Biren. Human life is very short. So what is more important among us is transparency and trust to lead a meaningful life. He also agreed to the proposal of taking up of a sewerage project for fast growing Senapati town and a Maram cultural centre in the district.

State’s deputy chief Minister Y Joykumar, Public health engineering minister L Dikho, Tribal affairs minister N Kaysii, Naga People’s Organisation President Moses also spoke on the occasion which was marked by a colourful dances performances of Mao,maram,poumai,Thangal and Zeliangrong communities. Earlier Chief Minister Biren led team was accorded a warm welcome by a large number of people at the picturesque hill town.
