Banks await clear notifications from JCC over bandh riders
Dimapur, Feb. 17 : Dimapur, the main commercial hub of Nagaland, has private banks, public-sector banks, centralized banks and state-owned banks.
Nonetheless, there has yet to be full transaction in said banking institutions thus far as they all remained closed since the shutdown by Joint Action Committee (JCC) and other organizations–the platforms spearheading the bandh across the state over the issue of municipal and town council elections.
Some officials from the banks informed the Eastern Mirror that they still wait for clear notifications from the JCC and other organizational leaders to resume the bandh. They said to be apprehensive of being harassed or that they were scared of mobs vandalizing office properties even though reports have been received that some banks had already started reopening in other districts. Further interactions with other officials of private banks revealed that no transactions were made till date accept for real-time gross settlement or national electronic fund transfers done some time in the evening after the bandh.
However, there were customers who were informed of alternatives, the internet, in case they had the facility at home to transfer funds OTP (one time password) through Interactive Voice Response.
Some bank officials have even reported to have received calls from parents of students studying abroad who are said to have been facing a hard time as their travel card needed more cash in their accounts–which can only be done by bank officials converting currency.
