DIMAPUR, MARCH 19
The Dimapur district authorities visited the Blue Hill precincts and few auto-rickshaw stands in and around Dimapur as part of enforcement to curb violation of transport regulations and subsidiary services.
The enforcement related to violation of transport regulations during the day concerned public transport services such as the notorious auto-rickshaws and their drivers. The check on subsidiary services included shutting illegal ticket-booking counters.
The exercise began from the proper town areas from where auto-rickshaw drivers found driving without proper uniforms were penalized. The joint enforcement was composed of officials from the administration, the traffic and transport authorities.
During the driver, the officials impounded around 79 auto-rickshaws after checking the parking in a number of areas such as Purana Bazar, and Railway Station, besides the urban parking.
Sub-divisional officer (civil) Moa Sangtam who was one of the team members said that the errant auto-rickshaws had been parked at the Dimapur District Sports Complex. They would be released only after the ‘non-uniformed drivers’ report to the authorities with proper uniforms.
The team of officials also checked into the ticket-booking counters located at the Blue Hill precincts and shut down counters that were running without proper licenses.
Surprisingly out of 32 ticket counters that operate in the area, only 8 counters fulfilled the license requirements as stipulated by the Regional Transport Authority.
The team plans to go for such regular enforcement drives to curb violation of transport and service regulations in the town.
Considering the growing population of the city, the need to check such activities has become a necessity. Implying corruption in general, such strong administrative action from the departments should be initiated in every area.
