Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) celebrated the International Women’s Day along with domestic workers, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) from Dimapur district and Karbi Anglong district of Assam under the wings of Ursuline Franciscan Sisters on the theme “Be bold for change” at Assisi Hall, Lakeview Colony, Dimapur, on March 25.The programme was inaugurated symbolically by lighting the lamp. The rationale behind the celebration was to motivate women for change and to acknowledge the contributions made by the women in the family and society at large.
Delivering the welcome address, Sr. Pramila Lobo, Director of ACID, said women are the architect of the society, a change for maker, builder of the family. She also urged the women to be bold for change and to see for themselves how great things happen when women work together as one family.
The chief guest Mrs Liangsi, advocate, spoke on “Role of women in the family and society.” Urging upon the women to be role model, she enlightened that women have power to bring changes in the society. She also motivated the women to promote education to their children.
Ms. Nikita Engheepi, Programme Officer, TISS, made aware of the legal provision available for women and promoted knowledge on Sexual Harassment Act.
Guest of honour Rev. Sr. Mary CJ, Provincial Superior of Ursuline Franciscan Sisters of NE Province, encouraged the women to work hand in hand, promote their rights and to stand by themselves in order to be empowered women.
