Wokha, Aug. 21 (EMN): The Assam Truckers’ Union on early Tuesday morning resorted to agitating at the Assam-Nagaland gate near Bhandari in Wokha district and stopped vehicles from entering Nagaland to protest the recent ILP verification drive in Wokha.

On learning about the development, the Bhandari sub-division administration and police personnel rushed to the side to take stock of the situation. The agitation was contained as representatives from the district administration of Golaghat (Assam) and Bhandari along with police officers met at the sector commandant’s office of the 142 CRPF at the border gate on Tuesday at 11 am. The blockade was called off after the meeting.

No untoward incident was reported during the agitation. Tiameren Chang, the additional deputy commissioner of Bhandari, made it clear at the meeting about the ILP guidelines and assured to work out a system to ‘facilitate’ genuine document-holders.

The officer stated that the ILP verification drive was not only for people from Assam but all people visiting the state for which they have to follow the system despite inconveniences.
