Dimapur, Oct. 11: Assam emerged victorious in senior mixed team events, which was played against Manipur in the Northeast zone inter-state badminton championship held at the Dimapur District Badminton Association (DDBA) Indoor Stadium, United Colony (Nagarjan) in Dimapur on Oct. 11.
The first match in the senior category began with men’s singles where Assam emerged victorious with an easy score of 21-8, 21-8. The Assam player, Orijit Chaliha exhibited high firepower, that the Manipur player Bidyasagar Salam failed to contain him.
The second match was a women’s singles category, which was again won by Assam. The match went to a decider in a best of three games, but Assam went ahead comfortably in the deciding set and closed out the game with a score of 21-15.
The third match was a men’s doubles contest. The first match saw an easy win for the Assam pair winning the set 21-10. However, in the second set, the Assam pair was made to sweat as the match went to a deuce. Nonetheless, they were able to close out the game with a score of 26-24. With it, the Assam team won the senior mixed team events with the other two matches, the women’s doubles and mixed doubles were abandoned as the winner was already decided.
Till the time of filing the report, the results for junior mixed team events stood at 2-1 in favour of Assam.
An official informed that the individual events will continue tomorrow with the finals of the individuals matches scheduled to be held on Oct. 13.
