Assam Rifles organise ‘hunters conclave’

Dimapur, Oct. 12 (EMN): The 4th Assam Regiment of the 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised ‘Hunters Conclave’, an interactive forum to establish dialogue with hunters in all company operating bases in order to address security related concerns of the locals in the operationally sensitive Indo-Myanmar Border region of Chandel District on 11 Oct., informed in a press note.
It further stated that, local in the unit area depends primarily on hunting in order to meet their financial and eating needs. However presence of multiple hunters in the vicinity along with likely presence of own troops operating in the area may prove to be a dangerous and risky proposition. Moreover improper handling of firearms by locals can also yield to unfavourable incidents. Keeping all this in view, the forward Company Operating Bases invited the local hunters and discussed the importance of maintaining high state of alertness and prior know how to security forces regarding movement of hunters with firearms so as to avoid any incident of mistaken identity.
The Conclave witnessed considerable participation and it ended with lunch and refreshments for the local hunters. This occasion provided unit an opportunity to the unit to enhance interaction with locals and keep an eye on the state of possession of firearms by locals. The hunters also expressed their gratitude on being invited and pledged their full cooperation in future, it added.
