Dimapur, May 23 (EMN): In an interesting development, the Assam Rifles on Monday last raided a ‘garage’ located at Chekiye village, 3rd mile, Dimapur and revered liquor worth Rs 65 lakh (approximate) from said place.

By virtue of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989, the state of Nagaland is – at least superficially – a dry state. A press release from the Assam Rifles on Tuesday, however, appears to expose the obvious flaws.

“Based on specific information, 36 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) along with police representative launched an operation in general area Chekiye village, 3rd mile, Dimapur on 22 May 2017.

“During the search, troops of Assam Rifles recovered 1770 cases of illegal IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) worth approximately Rs 65 lakh from a garage rented by Mr Victo Yepthomi. The individual is absconding and his whereabouts are still unknown. The recovered liquor was handed over to Diphupar police station, Dimapur district for further investigation and action”, it stated.
