In the series of operations on underground outfits, the Changlang Bn of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of DAO division conducted a successful operation in Changlang town in the afternoon of January 3.
A press release from the Public Relations Officer, PIB (defence) of the security force on Wednesday stated that a member of the NSCN (R) was arrested during the operations.
“SS Cpl Pingwang Kanglom was apprehended based on specific intelligence about presence of one cadre trying to terrorize and attempting forced extortion in New Changlang. The battalion swiftly launched an operation and apprehended the self styled corporal with a pistol and live ammunition,” the Assam Rifles stated.
“Post interrogation he admitted allegiance to NSCN(R) and said he had also undergone training in a NSCN camp in Myanmar as an active NSCN (K) cadre.”
The SF has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South ALP and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area. The operation has tightened the noose around the gp and has brought relief to the local population. Assam Rifles once again truly stood by their motto “Friends of the north east People”.
