Dimapur, April 10 (EMN): Acknowledging that climate change and global warming has become a reality worldwide, Arunachal Pradesh minister of public health and engineering, water supply, IPR etc., Bamang Felix called upon the citizens to plant more trees in their respective locality to help the planet from the universal crisis.
Addressing as chief guest on the inaugural session of the three-day media workshop on Climate Change reporting, held at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre on April 10, the minister expressed his concern on haphazardly construction process in the state without taking into consideration its impact on the environment.
“The threat of climate change needs to be taken very seriously,” UNI report stated quoting the minister. He also appealed the media fraternity to take extra initiatives to create awareness and sensitise the people about its effect on the environment.
The programme is being organised jointly by Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme (IHCAP) and Department of Science and Technology (DST), GoI, in collaboration with Department of Environment and Forests, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and the Centre for Media Studies (CMS). The IHCAP and CMS have been joining hands to conduct series of media workshop and fellowships in the Indian Himalayan region.
Thanking organisers for holding such type workshop on an important topic, Felix suggested the organisers to carry forward such programmes at ground level to create awareness. “Only holding meetings in a conference hall will not solve any problem”, he observed and urged them to evolve a draft on the basis of the outcome so that the government can prepare a policy to save the nature and wildlife. While pointing out that continuing change in climate across the world is posing threat to the environment and society, he appealed the people to preserve and protect forest to maintain ecological balance.
The three-day programme included technical session, field visit and media skill development. During the three-day programme, senior thematic experts, scientists and policymakers will interact with state level journalists from different media outlets.
