Interacting with the women of the village, the association’s president Amardeep Bains talked to them about the importance of the girl child and the need for education of women for all round development of the society, the army establishment said in a note to the media on Monday. She told the women villagers that the Assam Rifles were always there to extend help to them and sponsor the education of children in the security force’s schools.

The chairman of Tsiese Basa village, Kruzo Mere, is grateful for the 5-sector and 9th Assam Rifles for coming forward to propagate the importance of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign to the villagers. He expressed hope that the event would go a long way in enhancing women education in the village.
Meenakshi Tyagi, wife of the CO of the 9th Assam Rifles accompanied Amardeep Bains. The second in command of the 9th Assam Rifles, Shyamal Paul, also attended the event, the authorities informed.

Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao
The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a government of India scheme that aims to generate awareness and improving the efficiency of welfare services meant for women. The scheme was initiated with an initial corpus of ₹100 crore (US$15 million).
According to census data, the child sex Ratio (0–6 years) in India was 927 girls per 1,000 boys in 2001, which dropped drastically to 918 girls for every 1,000 boys in 2011.
The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme was introduced in October 2014 to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR). This is being implemented through a national campaign and focused on multi-sector action in 100 selected districts low in CSR, covering all the states and union territories. This is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
