Are You Using Technology Or is Technology Using You?

My phone got stolen yet again last month, it felt as if I was cut off from the rest of the world. Only the people (my colleagues) I was roaming with knew of my whereabouts and what I was doing. But then, my mind took me back to the day I visited Konya village under Tuensang District back in January of 2013.

When my colleagues and I were on the way to Konya Village, my phone’s battery was low so I was hoping to reach there soon. But, when we reached there, I found out two things about the village. First thing was that power supply to the village had been cut off for two days; it was due to a major repair that was taking place at the power house. The second thing was that the village doesn’t receive any cellular transmission. Yes, the village was out of network coverage area.

So, although my phone battery was low, there was no need to get it charged. And then, a gradual calmness came over me and I asked myself this question – have we become the slave of technology? Because, as you can see, when we need to make an important or urgent call and the phone is not receiving a signal, we are stressed. When we are low on talk-time or internet balance, we are stressed.

Ask yourself this, “am I using technology or is technology using me?” There is a fine line which separates the two. Know for yourself on which side of it you stand at and let us all try to live less stressful lives.
