Dimapur, Feb. 14: An apparel store in Dimapur, Fusion Store, has launched three collections ‘Famous Letterpress,’ ‘Mohsina Khan Fashion & Design’ and ‘Li-Mheghi’ (Sumi for ‘A girl’s treasure’), on February 14.
Fusion Store has been on intensive promotion of the three brands on social media for about a month before they were launched on Thur. Feb. 14 at its store. Others who were at the launch of the collections included Mohsina Khan Fashion & Design’s designer Mohsina Khan, and Famous Letterpress’s graphic artist Sinlo Kemp joining about 20 local entrepreneurs who have collaborated with Fusion Store.

The store has good news for Indian ethnic wear lovers with the launch of Mohsina Khan’s Lehenga collections.Delhi-based Khan grew up in Dimapur and her
affection for the town has brought her back to starting a venture with Fusion Store. “I always wanted to come back to Dimapur and start my journey here.” She told reporters at the launch that she was starting with limited pieces of traditional Indian party wear that are not bright hues or heavy but echoes the fashion preferences of the state.

An alumnus of Pearl Academy of Fashion in Delhi, Khan has worked as costume designer for short films like ‘Amma Meri’ and ‘Kaala’. ‘Amma Meri’ was screened at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland. She clarified that her creations available at the store presently were not bridal wear. Their price ranges from INR 9000 to INR 13000.

Famous Letterpress is a design studio with an in-house, full service, letterpress unit in Dimapur. The graphic artist at the official launch, and collaborating with Fusion Store maintained that ‘the studio was perhaps the only one in the country where designing and the printing process go hand in hand under the same roof; the machines the studio uses are not used by others for the same purposes and services and this makes Famous Letterpress a niche start-up.’

Semp explained that the machines were ‘vintage and original Heidelberg prints’ brought from Germany that are ‘about a century old.’ Everything from papers to the ink is imported from countries like England and Holland, he said. The process is tedious and it certainly makes the products a little expensive, the reporters were told.

Since the launch of the studio, he remarked that response had been largely positive and people from the state as well as outside reach out to them for products like wedding cards, business cards and other stationeries.

At the launch, the proprietor of Fusion Store, Temsusenla Kichu remarked that the growth of the store since the inception had been consistent. She wants to continue concentrating on Nagaland. The store is known for promoting local entrepreneurs and their creations. she wants to work for local brands and make the brands more visible.

Also, she mentioned the store’s association with Li-Mheghi, a home-based business run by Akali Swu from Kohima. Swu could not be present at the official launch of her brand. Li-Mheghi is an embroidery production. She sells her embroidered products and undertakes customised orders, besides novelties such as gift baskets, through social media.
