Dimapur, Feb. 17 (EMN):
An ‘adoption committee’ of the Kohima District Planning and Development Board adopting Midland ward has launched a GPS-enabled app to track ‘solid waste management vehicle.’

The app was launched by elected representative, and advisor to the Ward Adoption Committee, Keneizhakho Nakhro, on February 16 in Kohima, updates from the DIPR stated on Sunday.

The pilot project is being initiated by the ward adoption committee in collaboration with the Smart City Development Ltd.

The updates added: “The mobile app is envisaged to enhance management efficiency and easy accessibility of the SWM vehicles directly interfacing with the citizens on smart phones. Through the app the citizens can track the movement and the speed limit at which the vehicle is plying. Citizens/users can also get alert of the arrival of the SWM vehicle on their mobile phones when the vehicle is approaching the waste collection point.”

The committee has urged citizens of the ward to use the service for “better efficiency,” and provide feedback. The project might be replicated in other wards as part of the Kohima Smart City project if proved to be successful, the DIPR stated.
