Ao women donate water filters to NHAK

Kohima, April 8 (EMN): Commemorating Social Service Day ‘Ketmong Anogo’ on the theme ‘Ketla Tongjem,’ Kohima Watsu Telen (Ao women organisation) installed 10 water filters at the Naga Hospital Kohima, which was formally inaugurated by Dr. Neikhrielie, Managing Director, in the presence of the Watsu members, doctors and nurses on Saturday.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Neikhrielie Khimiao lauded Kohima Watsu Talen for initiating the facility in the hospital. He hoped that drinking water facility will benefit most of the patients in the hospital especially to those who can’t afford to buy even a bottle of water.

Watienla Jamir, member Kohima Watsu Telen and retired Director of Horticulture Department, said Ao Watsu Mungdang, since its inception in 1982, taken up social responsibilities and focus their service on various issues each year. With a sense of common service towards mankind, she said Watsu Kohima Unit has been carrying out social service with various sections of the people since 2015.

In 2015, the Unit undertook tree plantation with an aim to save the environment. In 2016, with an aim to ‘save a life,’ the unit hosted a tribute night. This year on the occasion of Ketmong Anogo, the unit extended help to the sick and the needy by providing the water filters.

Stressing on the need for maintenance of water filter, she lamented that Nagaland has good infrastructure but lack in maintenance. She further appealed the hospital authority to manage and preserve the facility in the best possible way to cater to the need of the people in the long run.

The chairperson of the programme, Chubasangla Longkumer, said Watsu Talen is the apex women organisation of the Ao tribe in Kohima. She said the facility in the hospital was initiated for a noble cause and hoped that it would be benefit the patients, staff and hospital in general.
