Dimapur, April 20 (EMN): Taking into account on numerous cases of dog bites, Veterinary Dispensary, Pfutsero, conducted a free anti-rabies vaccination and awareness camp on April 16. The vaccination and awareness camp was conducted to dispel misconception that although rabies is a life threatening disease, it could easily be prevented.

During the awareness camp, veterinary doctors enlightened the public by informing that rabies is a zoonotic disease. They have insisted on the importance of organising such camps by taking into consideration that there are growing numbers of pet lovers in the state.

They educated the public by saying that though there are incidents of rabies through cat bites, the highest incidents were reported through dogs especially in India.

Besides Dr. Keneisezo Kuotsu, veterinary consultant of National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP), speeches were delivered by Dr. Rosou Pohena, veterinary assistant surgeon, Phek, who spoke on “What is Rabies, its prevention and care,” and Dr. Esther Krocha, veterinary assistant surgeon, Pfütsero.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Rokozo Dolie, deputy chief veterinary and animal and husbandry officer, Phek. Speech was also delivered by Zeneikhonuo Vimero, additional deputy commissioner, Pfütsero.
