Dimapur, May 29

An organization in Dimapur that is spearheading a movement against illegal immigrants in the district is reaching out to non-Naga communities with the message that persons with dubious nationalities and identities are damaging the local and genuine Indian communities.  Anti-alien organization, Survival Nagaland is meeting with Indian communities in the district such as the Bihari Bhojpuri community, Muslim Council of Dimapur, Jain Sammaj and the Bengali Sammaj. Likewise, the organization will be meeting with organizations representing the Marwari Manch, Gorkha Union, Kachari Union, Assamese Union, and Kerala Sammelan, among others.
“The Survival Nagaland Movement members in its drive to foster goodwill and maintain a cordial relationship with all sections of people in Dimapur met non-local organizations like the Bihari Bhojpuri Community, Muslim Council Dimapur, Jain Sammaj and the Bengali Sammaj,” the organization stated in a press release issued to the media on Friday, May 29.
“Expressing their happiness and support for the movement, the non-local organizations also voiced out their concern and felt sad how Dimapur has become a safe haven for all types of criminals and anti-social activities,” Survival Nagaland stated.
According to the organization, many of these the non-Naga persons have ‘ancestors and parents’ who were pioneers and forerunners during the establishment of the cosmopolitan township of Dimapur. ‘Dimapur was more than just a home to them and in fact feels homesick and miss the town even if they sometimes go to visit their native states. They consider themselves to be a part of the great Naga family and thank Nagas for their wonderful hospitality,’ the press release explained.
The concern was “others”, particularly the growing number of non-Indian populations such as Bangladeshi nationals who enter Nagaland from Assam, a state that is widely perceived in the north-east to be saturated by Bangladeshi immigrants just as Tripura is.
“Unlike the others, who come and disturbs the peaceful atmosphere, these non-local communities of Dimapur whose sole intention is to earn their livelihood and live peacefully, wished Dimapur would regain the good old days where all communities lived harmoniously with hardly any occurrence of crimes,” the Survival Nagaland leadership stated.
“All these non- local bodies expressed desire to work unitedly and make Dimapur a better place for our coming generations”.
Reiterating its earlier stand, Survival Nagaland has stated that it was not against Indian citizens, or any religion or group but against the influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants “who comes through Assam to stay in Dimapur in unproportionate numbers”.
The organization made clear that it was not against any “community, religion, group or the genuine Indian citizens but it is against all crimes committed against our Naga people by outsiders especially the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who comes through Assam to stay in Dimapur in unproportionate numbers.
The main objective of the Survival Nagaland Movement is to imbibe the work culture and instill the dignity of labour among the Naga people”, it stated.
The organization assured that it would be meeting other community organizations representing the Marwari Manch, Gorkha Union, Kachari Union, Assamese Union, and Kerala Sammelan , among others, in the coming days.
