Anglers and council members declare ‘no explosives zone’

Dimapur, Sep. 25 (EMN): The District Anglers of Wokha, Nagaland (DAWN) had a joint coordination meeting with village council members on Sep. 16, at Woods, Ashaa village.
The meeting was called with the aim to promote angling, ecotourism and conservation of indigenous species of fish in an around Doyang reservoir.
Members from Pangti, Sunglup, Yonchücho, Ashaa, Doyang Lotha Hoho, Thilong village and fishermen’s from Chubi area attended the meeting, it was informed. Resource person Dr. Nribemo Odyuo, scientist at BSI Shillong; TS Lotha, geologist at NU; Yanger Pongen, EE of the PHED of Mokokchung exhorted the gathering about the importance of angling and the environment.
After a lengthy discussion, the members declare a “no explosives zone” starting from Fisheries department’s hatchery till two kilometres stretch towards Chubi River.
The meeting also decided to put up signboards and hoardings in said area as a precautionary measure. The members appealed to the department in concern to continue supplying sufficient fish to ‘improve the plight of the poor fishermen in an around Doyang reservoir.’
