Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): The All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) recently completed its third phase of education tour, which included visits to Peren Government College, Mt. Tiyi College Wokha, Bailey Baptist College Wokha and Kohima Science College Jotsoma.

According to a press release from the union on Saturday, the new Peren Government College campus was yet to be completed. “The union paid a visit to the new campus and could observe that the construction has been left unattended for several years although works were going on of late. ”

At Bailey Baptist College, which is run by a church council, the union expressed appreciation to the church for its service. It also appealed to the college to “prepare itself with all the required facilities” and undergo NAAC assessment.

Next stop was at Mt. Tiyi College Wokha where, according to the union, students “expressed the need and importance of various subjects to be introduced in the college in respect to the subjects being offered in the higher secondary of the district.”

The tour ended with an interaction with the students of Kohima Science College in Jotsoma. The students questioned the sincerity of the state government towards the settlement of Kohima Science College land issue, it stated.

“The decade-long pending land issue of the only science college in Nagaland still seems unimportant to the state government and students are being forced to study in an institution where land disputes affect the growth of the college,” read the statement.

It also stated that every college was facing shortage of lecturers, and has appealed to the state government to “implement the rationalisation report in spirit by immediately sending those sanctioned posts to Nagaland Public Service Commission for recruitment.”

“During the tour, the union highlighted about its total opposition to any kind of attachment/redeployment in the government colleges, mushrooming growth (sic) of contract appointment without sanction post, scholarship issue, academic issues and various other related issues.”
