An Opinion On ULB Election to Heed Or Not to Heed

As our fellow Naga brother’s Article dated 15-1-17 Y Toshimong “No act or parliament can override the voices of the people”(Art, 371 A).

I would dare to say that the present government who depends only on the centre. Regarding 33 percent reservation in ULB if implemented, to me it’s a discrimination to all Naga women, whether (women) agree it or not.

By the way isn’t it funny that we are fighting amongst ourselves rather than fighting for external aggression for the causes of the whole Nagas?

Recently our Naga village has been divided into two parts by India and Burma which has been existed for decades and decades. Not only organisation and whatsoever parties but as an individual we must oppose it tooth to nail because it is an insult to us the Nagas by India and Burma.

Coming back to 33 percent reservation, as far as I know, no women were disallowed to contest in any field, whether it’s general election or recently name ULB, take for example of Naharbari village chairperson, she won without any reservation defeating all her male counterparts. Even before, if am not mistaken one or two women contested in the general election from the eastern part of Nagaland though they didn’t win. Regarding the present crisis, majority of Nagas opposed 33 percent reservation whereas some opportunist didn’t, i.e “may be” they are driven by some opportunist legislators. I would say, “not may be” but they are directly or indirectly motivated. If the government of the day by any chance change their mind, they ought to first hear the common people’s voices not only to organisation or society or whatever party, after all they (legislators) didn’t win only because of those parties, it is the people least like me and my fellow Naga brothers and sisters, rich or poor, who elected them.

Dear legislators stop misusing your powers at the expense of few people, you can’t guarantee that you will be legislator until you die, so while you are in this position atleast hear the plight and voices of the common people too. Legislators, who are not opposed to 33 percent reservation, are just to get the benefits from the centre, that’s all.

But of course, there must be some alternative for this present imbroglio without implementing 33 percent reservation (in my opinion) after all nothing is impossible. Even out of nowhere there must be some reason to settle it amicably. Still then I am sure women will win even without any reservation. Not only men but there are many capable women who wants to uplift the Nagas in every field more than man, not only for self (women) or child issue. Let the best and the most capable man or woman win but without any reservation. Money is not an issue anymore for most of the Nagas but development.

Let the bygones be bygones. In this generation women have surpassed man in most of the field and I am sure and pray let most of the women candidates win. Nagas know who will implement their duties for the welfare of the public and for development in every sphere, after all what have man dominated fields (politics) did in their part? Only corruption and do you know they never walk the talks. Nagas now are not what we were anymore. But as for me if I have to I will definitely vote for women in this upcoming ULB election.
