Dear brother,
We have hardly met but incidentally, we happen to have two common identities, that we belong to the same clan and that we hail from the same constituency. Besides the above commonalities, hopefully we equally share a common concern for the welfare of the people of our constituency that is not only your vote bank but an arena where there are innumerable opportunities and challenges for you to look after their welfare.

I write this letter with an intention that you will respond to the issues positively but not take it otherwise. Since you have entered into the fields of Nagaland politics, your name has been constantly in the news for various reasons, some inspiring and some otherwise. As one of the senior citizens of our constituency where I have witnessed the growth and decay of many leaders, I would like to offer few humble advices to you. You are still young and energetic and have made a fresh entry into politics. You have thus plenty of time to study and learn the intricacies of Nagaland politics that has cruised, often thought rough waters for more than fifty years of Statehood. There is therefore a need, perhaps for you to be wise, patient and go steady in expressing your views and opinions about our people and its politics.

Secondly, our constituency still remains economically backward though one of the earliest Circle HQ of Nagaland was opened at Alongtaki of our area. A picture of a wooden bridge of our area that was featured in one of the local dailies of 8/07/’19 will sadly portray the picture of our area. Whereas elsewhere people talk about the construction of iron bridge, our constituency is worried about a wooden bridge that is about to collapse. Our roads are in a dilapidated condition with very poor maintenance. The various departmental institutions that are presently running at Longchem HQ are in a very poor condition especially on manpower management. Most of the departmental officials are either not willing to work at Longchem and those who are posted that many regard as punishment posting, hardly remain there. Though the soils of our area that is bordering with Assam are very fertile, we have so far failed to capitalise on those rich reserves to our advantage. When people are talking about smart city in the state and district HQ’s, our people are made to talk nonchalantly about road blocks, landslide and outbreak of malaria or typhoid, etc. in our area.

Even the minds of our people continue to hibernate under the weight of the backward tag without a ray of hope for change. Whereas the present condition of backwardness especially in the economic field should have been capitalised as a wakeup call in reinvigorating various developmental programs for the overall development of our constituency, we have instead labelled the backwardness tag as an instrument of lullaby in rocking our people to sleep instead of witnessing the developments works around us.

We are in need of capable leader that can deliver goods to the people. With your capabilities, you can be that leader.

Tali Longkumer
