An ode to winter

Winter, you are cold and dry!
You make me chill and I shudder,
You come annually but never bring good tidings of joy.
You bring but death and I dread to come
out to meet you in the open space;
While I wait for summer, you take the warmness
out of my window.
I look for the sun but you hide him from me.
O poor creatures that move along the seas and earth–they willingly cooperate with your stubborn nature.
The grass withers and the flowers fall because of you,
They long to rise again.
You dry up and desolate the streams and rivers.
Even lands cannot hold itself steadily and
its smoke fills the air.
Winter you are lonely and terrible but I love you because you bring families together.
You keep the schools closed for children and
we celebrate with your time here,
Though you have no good news, we create good memories out of you.
Time may end you for another season but you never relent one bit from keeping yourself alive
for the next year.
Though I hate to see you here, it would be harder
to be without you.
You may reign for a season but do not forget for yet summer is coming soon.
