All Nagaland Catholic School games meet held

Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) organised a two-day games meet for the All Nagaland Catholic Schools from Sep. 20 till the 21 with Carmel Higher Secondary School and St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Chumukedima as the host. This was stated in a press note received here on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Sushil Kumar Patel IAS, attended the occasion as the special guest. More than 800 participants took part in the different sports discipline which included football, volleyball and basketball for both junior and senior girls and boys.

Speaking on the occasion Sushil Kumar congratulated the CEDOK for organising the event. He called upon the participants to fully take part in the event with true sportsmanship. He also declared the sports event open by kicking the football. The inaugural function witnessed the hosting of the CEDOK flag by Sushil Kumar.

The first days’ matches witnessed knock-out stage. The second day was occupied with the quarter, semi, and final matches.

St. Andrew’s School, Thenyizumi emerged as the over-all champions of the tournament.

The concluding ceremony was attended by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima. Speaking on the occasion he exhorted the participants with the message drawn from the 1987 Paralympic experience. He said that we should carry with the values and not only the trophies. The winners trophies were present to the winning teams by Bishop James and Fr. Johnson the Vice provincial of the CST congregation.

29 catholic schools took part in the tournament.
