Dimapur, May 25: The seventh meeting of the working committee of the All India Catholic Union’s (Aicu) got underway on May 25 at the Don Bosco Institute for Development and Leadership in Dimapur.
Hosted by the Catholic Association of Nagaland, the event will be held in Dimapur as well as Kohima on the theme ‘unity in service’ till May 27. The chief conferrer of the meeting, Rev. Dr. Gerald John in his speech reminded the gathering that the unique character of every man is to ‘seek the Kingdom of God.’ Speaking about the common man, he said they are the church.
The church, he said, in a ‘secular world’ is expected to ‘bear witnesses of Christ.’ During his speech, Mathias also commented on the recent apostolic exhortation of the Vatican City State and the 266th Pope Francis’ ‘call to holiness’.
He mentioned that holiness is the ‘most’ attractive face of the church. While encouraging the union’s effort to conduct the meeting, Mathias also asked them to play a greater role in future.
Bishop of Kohima, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil spoke about the church scenario in Nagaland, particularly the Catholic community. He said there are about 60,000 catholic members in the state. Although the number of the members is small, the efforts of the church member in transforming the situation of the state and influencing the people are wonderful, he said.
