Dimapur, August 23 (EMN): All India Congress Committee (Minority Department) Observer for Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram Rejaul Karim Laskar met the Moderator Elect of the Presbyterian Church of India Rev. Lalramliana Pachuau at Aizawl on Wednesday. Laskar and Rev. Pachuau had a cordial discussion on important issues where Laskar described the 45 minutes meeting as ‘courtesy call’.
During their meeting Laskar emphasised that the Constitution of India, in its Preamble, describes India as a secular country and emphasised on the need to protect secularism which he said the government of India is duty bound under the Constitution to treat every religion equally. Laskar also emphasised that the right to freedom of religion including the right to freely profess, practice, and propagate religion which was granted by the Constitution of India must be protected from undue encroachment. Rev. Pachuau has also expressed gratitude to Laskar for visiting the Synod.
Laskar visited the office of Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in Aizawl and had a discussion with the chairman and other office bearers of the Minority Department of the MPCC regarding the future activities of the department especially in the context of the coming assembly elections in the state.
