Agri. dept. asks workers to pursue ‘zero hunger world’

Dimapur, Oct. 17 (EMN): The Agriculture department has urged personnel of the department to work hard to secure food security as has been declared in the vision statement ‘Food for all by 2025,’ according to updates from the department’s World Food Day programme recently.
World Food Day was observed by the department of Agriculture in the directorate in Kohima, on October 16. The event was conducted with the theme “our actions are our future: A zero hunger world by 2030 is possible.’

The ‘theme speaker’ was L Butang Khiamniungan, additional director, a press release from the department informed. He highlighted the importance and objectives of the theme and emphasized on mitigating rural poverty and working from scarcity to ‘excess’ in food. He also gave ‘background information’ and functions of the

Food and Agriculture Organization, besides highlighting how World Food Day started.
According to the press release, Khiamniungan was of the opinion that people, especially the farmers in the state, should think globally but act locally.

‘We not only thank God for our daily bread, but also to remember the farmers who undergo all the hardship for the produce reaching our table, as it is hard to raise crops and receive the produce,’ the updates quoted him as having said.

He advised officers and staff not to waste food ‘in days to come in any occasion or functions.’ Besides, the spoke about his 35 years of experience in farming systems, the press release stated.

Khiamniungan encouraged the department’s officers and staff to work harder to achieve the department vision to secure “Food for All by 2025.”
