Dimapur, Nov. 14 (EMN): Angami Gazetted Officers’ Krotho (AGOK) held the foundation stone laying ceremony of the AGOK Badze multi-utility centre, which was formally laid by the Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Commissioner, Temjen Toy, on November 9 at AGOK Badze, Meriema.
Exhorting the AGOK members, Temjen Toy said all tribes have officers’ union but not all have concern for the people. He has lauded the efforts of AGOK in working towards uplift of the people since its inception unlike others.
“Kohima, being the capital, is in need of one good multi-utility centre. There are many, but none meets the standard,” Temjem Toy remarked and urged the Krotho to accomplish the project with the highest quality and make the project as example for everyone to see. He expressed hope seminars and workshops of both government and non-government organisations of the highest standard would be held in the proposed multi-utility building.
Stating that the journey to the future is rushing at fast pace, he said the preparation should be relevant for the future. He added that the most important thing for the youth to prepare their future is to change their mindsets.
AGOK president, Dr. Kedozeto Punyü, who chaired the programme, expressed gratitude to the Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Commissioner, Temjen Toy, for his positive response to be a part of the programme as the special guest. In his welcome address, Punyü expressed gratitude to all the pioneers and visionary leaders of the past and present for their valuable suggestions and contributions towards the Krotho. He has credited the concerted efforts and sacrifices rendered during the early stage of its formation for enabling the innovative idea into a reality. He particularly thanked the pioneers namely Kevisiezolie Suohu, Thepfulhouvi Angami, R Kevichüsa, Molhou Zhasa and late Dr. Zakievotso without whom the dream would not have been possible.
He mentioned that AGOK was formed in the year 1983 with KK Angami and Thepfulhouvi Angami as the first president and general secretary respectively. He said the site of AGOK Badze was purchased on November 19, 1991, at a cost of INR 2,40,000 measuring around 3.07 acres.
He also highlighted some of the main objectives of the project such as to host important cultural and social events for the citizens of Kohima, conduct meetings, training and seminars of both government and non-governmental sectors, and provide sports infrastructure and training facilities to the youth at affordable rates. He said the multi-utility centre will have a conference hall with 700-800 seating capacity, two mini halls of 50-60 seating capacity, two deluxe rooms for guests/ resource persons and parking facility for minimum 100 vehicles.
The Krotho has set the target to complete the project is within 2 years. The construction committee would be headed by K Neibou Sekhose as convenor, while Richard Belho, entrepreneur and an architect by profession, would be the main architect of the AGOK Badze multi-utility centre.
AGOK vice president, K Neibou Sekhose proposed the vote of thanks, while pastor of Meriema Baptist Church, Keduolhoulie Shüya, offered the dedicatory prayer.
A host of dignitaries such as AHoDs, HoDs, former AGOK presidents and secretaries, representatives from AYO, ASU, AWO and other well-wishers and members of AGOK attended the programme.
