Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has asked the Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) to stop using the pretext of ‘supreme sacrifice’ as a ‘facade’ for ‘illegal activities.’ The NPCC issued a press release on Sunday sharply attacking the recent move of the chief minister of Nagaland to appoint his own son an ‘advisor.’
“NPF justifying the appointment of Khriehu Liezietsu as advisor to chief minister with cabinet status as reward for his ‘supreme sacrifice’ sounds hollow. The liberal use of the word ‘supreme sacrifice’ has now become the facade for all illegal activities of NPF,” the NPCC remarked.
A sarcastic NPCC declared dryly: “For the first time in any political history, we are hearing about the son making supreme sacrifice so that his father continues to be chief minister and the father rewarding his son to be his advisor after performing rites of so called supreme sacrifice at NPF CEC meeting.”
Here, the NPCC said to have made clear that it has “no issues in father-son combine” running the affairs of the NPF “as their personal fiefdom,” but the Congress added, the affairs of the government was a separate issue.
“There can be no greater case of nepotism than Dr Shurhozelie appointing his unmandated son who had recently resigned as legislator to pave way for him. Instead of taking pains to explain about parliamentary norms and procedures on the ascension of Dr Shurhozelie as chief minister, NPF should rather be ashamed that there was no suitable or capable legislator among the 48 party legislators to take over as the chief minister.”
This, the NPCC stated, showed “the depth of leadership crisis” in the NPF ‘that had to fall back on an unmandated leader to give them some breathing space.’
Further, the press release stated that the NPF’s tirade against the NPCC President K Therie was a “payback of ungratefulness, since it was he who single handedly revived the dying cock party and propelled it to power in 2003.”
The political development in the Congress of those years “concerning our leader’s exit from the party is known to every political observer,” the NPCC stated.
“His dropping from the cabinet despite being the main architect of NPF-DAN coming to power in 2003 was the handiwork of some ungrateful people and power mongers in the NPF who felt threatened by his popularity, political principles and unwavering commitment on a host of issues concerning the people of Nagaland.”
Therefore, the press release stated, the NPF “would do well to remember that resorting to attacks on a leader who is solely responsible for giving them a political breakthrough will not have any takers other than exposing their petty mindedness and ungrateful heart.”
