Dimapur, June 17 (EMN):
Adding a feather to the cap of Assam’s evolutionary history, a book titled ‘‘Economic History of the Miris’’ (Mishings) was released on Sunday by the Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya in the GU-IST Hall of Gauhati University.

Authored by Peter Pegu, the book is the result of an in-depth study of the various stages of economic life of the Mishing tribe over the last 3000 years, PRO to governor said.

Addressing the gathering during the release, Acharya stressed upon the need of social connectivity in any intellectual work. He appealed to the authors and researchers to make meaningful contributions to the national character building through their intellectual works.

“As books are strong forces that can impact the minds of the people, they should have in between the lines the molecules for solidifying the oneness in a diverse country like India,” the governor said.

Highlighting the significance of the book, he also emphasised on the importance of quality content of the book, rather than spelling or name of the tribe.

Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Prof. Mridul Hazarika, expressed happiness for releasing the book at the university because the institution conducts various academic activities on the language and culture of ethnics groups of north-eastern region.

He hoped that book would be immensely beneficial for the researchers working in relevant topics.

Chairman of Ruwad Educational Trust S S Pegu, enumerate the contents of the book and lauded the efforts of the author in compiling the rare data used in the book.

Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Registrar of Gauhati University, said the the book would go in as a glittering stone on to the mosaic of Assam’s intellectual world.

Brig. (Retd.) Abani Pait appreciated the author for recording the otherwise forgotten aspects of the Mishing tribe like their economy-related practices over the millennia.
