Acharya inaugurates cultural gala Shilpgram Mahotsav

Dimapur, Jan. 18 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland PB Acharya, who is also the chairman of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), has urged for preservation of the ‘local culture’ and languages of the Northeast states ‘at all cost.’ He addressed the inaugural programme of the Shilpgram Mahotsav-2018 at Guwahati on Jan. 17, updates from the PRO to the governor stated on Thur.
Addressing the three-day cultural festival Governor Acharya said ‘We should continue to safeguard and promote our rich culture, tradition and language as they are our identity and describe who we are.’ Saying that unity in diversity was the ‘peculiarity of India,’ the Naga governor opined that emotional and national integration can be achieved through cultural exchange programmes among various states across the country.
The three day “Shilpgram Mahotsav” is organized as part of 12th foundation day of Shilpgram at Guwahati. The main purpose of the festival is to showcase the cultural diversity of the region along with the artist community of Northeast India.
Zone cultural centres across the country are participating in the event. Some of the highlights of the festival include theatre performances, magic shows, mimes; a children’s painting and drawing workshop; folk music by artistes of Assam in addition to choreographed folk and classical dance; food and crafts etc.
The ministry of Culture had set up Shilpgram in 2006 for the promotion of local arts and crafts.
