Dimapur, July 25 (EMN): The 10 Northern Angami-1 Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) has appealed the voters of the constituency to cast their votes according to their conscience and elect the right candidate in the ensuing by-election scheduled on July 29.
The Congress party accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of violating the provision of People Representation Act of 1951 by holding by-election in the 10 Northern Angami-1 A/C whereas the remaining term in office is less than one year.In this by-election, the choice of the electorates is voting for secularism or anti-Christian party like BJP, president of 10 Northern Angami -1 ACCC Tsieyie Mere said in a press release. He said this while referring to the recent statement of NPF president who stated that NPF is the “natural ally” of BJP.
“The BJP is the political wing of the RSS, and after the BJP came into power in the centre, the RSS cadres were coming to the state to spread their hidden agenda of ‘Hindutva’ by using the name of national organising secretary of BJP and meeting people,’ the statement added.
It recalled that during the Janata regime which comprised of BJP, Moraji Desai, the then Prime Minister of India, had tried to do away all the smaller states and Union Territories in the North Eastern region. It alleged that the former Prime Minister deliberately tried to do away with the religious freedom of the minorities especially directed against the Christians by introducing the ill-fated Freedom of Religion Bill in the Parliament.
The Congress party, while maintaining its consistent policy and programme, asserted that it will not compromise on its principle of upholding ‘Secularism,’ adding the party is determined to fulfil the aspiration of the people if voted to power in the 2018 assembly elections.
The 10 Northern Angami-1 ACCC, therefore, appealed to the voters of the constituency to cast their votes for ‘Secularism’ in the by-election in order to safeguard the identity of the people in the State.
