Acaut denounces extortion on the pretext of nationalism

Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (Acaut) has hit out at Naga national political groups (NNPGs) for failing to rein in rogue elements within their rank and files of their organisations nor deal with excesses perpetrated by their cadres in manner that is appropriate and justifiable in the eye of the public.
Stating that extortion on the pretext of nationalism is an understanding now quite familiar with people, Acaut pointed out that the brazen act of abducting a helpless working woman by the cadre of NSCN (IM) for extortion was one such unpardonable shameless act and unimaginable in the Naga society.
Pointing out that Dimapur is the most diverse, pluralistic and progressive city in Nagaland, an indicator of the heath of Naga society, Acaut lamented that it is also the one most afflicted by the scourge of taxation, extortion and syndicate system, with jungle raj and lawlessness running reins indicating rotting moral, ethics of a collapsing society.
As the city embraces both traditional and modern set up and social structure, Acaut stated that law and order become a tricky and a complicated affairs for the district administration and the police to handle alone. It, therefore, stressed on absolute necessity for all tribal bodies, NGOs and civil body organisations to exert social pressure on individuals from within their own community to conduct and act in accordance so as not to disturb the fragile balance of diversity which is the flavour and very essence of what Dimapur is.
Meanwhile, ACAUT has applauded Dimapur police for the prompt action and requested for thorough investigation so that all those involved in the crime are arrested. ACAUT further urged the judiciary to give appropriate punishment to those criminals.
