Dimapur, May 21 (EMN): A presentation ceremony of the governor’s award to high school and higher secondary toppers, subject toppers in Modern Indian Subjects, and skill education subjects, was held on May 21 at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima.

The ceremony also honoured rank holders of the high school leaving and higher secondary boards, updates from the government’s publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), stated on Tuesday.

The award of INR 25,000 to each of the toppers was sponsored by the State Bank of India, as part of the bank’s cooperate social responsibility, the IPR stated.

In his address to the event Governor PB Acharya said there was growth in unemployment in the state.

‘This problem can be solved when the youths opt for entrepreneurship rather than running after government jobs,’ the IPR stated quoting him. The governor pointed out that government and private institutions in all the districts must improve equally for Nagaland to develop the infrastructure of schools.

Further, Acharya urged the students to work hard and to be assets to the society and the state. He talked about the significance of entrepreneurship, the updates stated.

‘Jobs in the government sector has reached a saturation point,’ he said. Acharya advised the students to acquire new skills to equip themselves to be more competitive in the job market in private sectors outside.

Neichute Doulo, chief executive officer of the Entrepreneurs Associate, also addressed the event. He advised the students to ‘start imagining and building another world, the entrepreneur world,’ the IPR explained off his speech.

“Times have changed and so has the market,” he said and told the students that they should not regard Nagaland as a landlocked state but as a land-linked state. He urged them to grab the opportunity and explore the ‘business world.’

“India as a country and Nagaland as a state desperately needs entrepreneurs and therefore they should become assets and revenue generators of the state, Doulo said.

Another speaker, Geoffrey Yaden, the editor in chief of a local newspaper Nagaland Post, sought to encourage the students by telling them that inspiration should be followed by action and that they should not give in to complacence and procrastination. The two things are ‘everyone’s enemies’ and does not help one to move forward, he said.

Yaden said further that the children that they should always ‘assess themselves to understand themselves better.’

“ Nagaland has one of the highest rate of government employees in the country because people in the state believe that it is only the government that can provide for the well being of the state,” the IPR stated quoting Yaden.

“This dominance of government culture should change through the youths encouraging themselves in taking up entrepreneurship. Yaden added that the children should always have a backup plan while setting their goals and that they should learn to be their own teacher.”

‘Goals, perseverance and strategy’ were the three things that guided him and which, he said, might also help them. Yaden urged the students to motivate and encourage each other and ‘have a heart to help people for the uplift of the state,’ the updates stated.

The advisor to School Education, KT Sukhalu, addressed the event too. He was stated to have asked the students to maintain the ‘same consistency’ in order for them to succeed in their lives and always have a vision to move forward.

‘Entrepreneurship is one area the children should look into,’ the government servant said. He was stated to have urged school managements to ‘maintain the integrity of exams.’

“He urged the school managements to be concerned about the students and to nurture them and guide them and encourage them through different activities so that they are not confused with what to do in their future lives,” Sukhalu said.
