Dimapur, Feb. 12: In what seemed like an outcome of reckless driving, a child was run over by a truck near the clock tower junction in Dimapur, in front of Bajaj showroom, at around 4:30 to 5 pm, on Tuesday.

The boy was declared dead upon the arrival of the Dimapur police personnel at the spot. According to eyewitnesses, a truck came from the I Vikeshe Sema Road towards the clock tower before running over the child.

The eyewitnesses explained that the child was sitting on a motorcycle, which was being driven by his father. On reaching Bajaj’s showroom, the child fell off the motorcycle, during which the truck ran him over.

Some shopkeepers in the vicinity of where the accident took place said that the police—fearing the wrath of the crowd that had gathered at the scene—took the driver away and hid him inside the traffic police booth.

After inspecting the site of accident, the police took the driver along with the truck to the East Police station. Eastern Mirror reached the spot of accident and followed the police personnel to the East Police station to obtain details about the accident. However, ADCP crime, including the officer in-charge and PRO, was away from the station during the incident.

Hence, the police officials who were at the station refused to divulge any further information, stating they were not authorised to do so.
