Kohima, Sep. 16 (EMN): Altogether 20 Scouts and 64 Guides under the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts & Guides (NSBSG) were awarded with Rajya Puraskar (Governor’s Award), while 8 Scouts and 11 Guides received the Rashtrapati (President’s Award 2015-16) at a felicitation programme held at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on September 16.
The awards were given away by the Governor and chief patron of NSBSG, PB Acharya.
Stating that the tasks of the Scouts and Guides entailed personality development of the youth, the Governor encouraged them to render selfless service to the community. He also called upon the young Scouts and Guides to become ambassadors of peace and progress, stating that they can play vital role in reaching out to the needy and poor people of the society.
Acharya also suggested that they can take the lead role to ensure that welfare schemes/projects of the state and central governments reach the targeted beneficiaries.
Stating that the movement is playing an active and important role in shaping the character of the youth in Nagaland, he pointed out that the Scouts and Guides could contribute in strengthening communal harmony, brotherhood, secularism so that the State could march ahead on the path of progress and prosperity in peaceful atmosphere.
State Chief Commissioner of NSBSG, Atou Mezhur, expressed confidence that Scouts and Guides, who have taken pledge to help the people, would become better citizens and contribute to the growth of the society. He also highlighted the rigorous training the scouts and guides go through to receive the various awards.
The schools which were awarded with the Rajya Puraskar 2017 certificates included Vidya Bhavan School, Dimapur; Highland Hall School, Dimapur; Assisi School, Dimapur; Naga United Government High School, Dimapur; Good Shepherd Higher Secondary, Kiphire; Loyola Higher Secondary, Kiphire; El-Beth High School, Kiphire; Government Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Eastern Academy School, Dimapur; Mezhur Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Chandmari Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Coraggio School, Kohima; Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima; and Baptist High School, Kohima.
