63rd KVSA meet to commence today

Kohima, Jan. 12 (EMN): The 63rd Kohima Village Sports Association (KVSA) meet will be held from Jan. 13 till the 19th at Khuochiezie ground Kohima.
Interacting with media persons on the eve of the week-long event amidst major preparations at the venue, KVYO president Medozhatuo Rutsa informed that the KVSA meet which started in 1945, is one of the oldest sporting events in the north east region.
“It is not only a sports meet, but a festival, where all the four khels of the village: Lhisemia-Khel, Dapfhütsumia-Khel, Pfuchatsumia-Khel and Tsütuonuomia-Khel come together in unison,” Rutsa said. He informed that around 1500 youth will be part of the opening ceremony, which is scheduled to be held on Jan. 13 evening.
A prelude to the inauguration of 63rd KVSA Meet will be held on Sat. at 5:20 pm at Thevokemouzie in Kohima village where CRCKV pastor Lhouvizhü Sachü will invoke blessings for the event. This will be followed by lighting of the KVSA torch. Meanwhile, the inaugural extravaganza will commence at Khuochiezie ground in Kohima at 5:30 pm with Kohima Village Council chairman, Dr. Neiphi Kire as the chief guest.
Lighting of 63rd KVSA flame, choral presentations, drill display, special melodies, shadow act, talent display etc. will mark the opening ceremony of the KVSA Meet 2018.
KVYO vice president Dzüvinguzo Mepfhüo informed that a total of 44 gold medals will be up for grabs in various disciplines – athletics, indoor and outdoor games, and traditional wrestling- for 400 athletes who will be competing in the week-long sporting event.
