Imphal, August 31 (EMN): Two different strikes and total shut down paralysed normal life in some hills areas of Manipur particularly in Tengnoupal and Tamenglong districts besides affecting the vehicular movement on Pallel-Moreh sector Indo-Myanmar highway and Barak-Khongsang sector of Imphal-Jiribam highway on Thursday.
The All Manipur Border Area Development Association (AMBADA) called 48 hours bandh in all the border areas from August 30 midnight till September 1 protesting the cabinet decisions on border areas development programme/schemes.

However there is no report of any untoward incident till the report goes to the press. A functionary of AMBADA said the agitation will be intensified if the authority fails to roll back the decision.
On the other Nungba, a popular hill town, about 115km west of Imphal along Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH 37) wore desolate look from dawn to dusk while the vehicular traffic along the said route which is considered as the second life line of Manipur after Imphal-Mao sector NH 2, has been paralysed for the day in view of the ‘total indefinite shut-down’ on Thursday.
The total indefinite shut-down’ was called by Nungba Area Joint Action Committee (NAJAC) protesting the government’s alleged negligence and step motherly treatment towards the public of Nungba area.
The NAJAC has been demanding full functioning of the community health centre at the hill station by maintaining the necessary infrastructure including 10 doctors besides functioning of the ultra sound and x ray machines. In view of the shut-down, many vehicles were also reportedly stranded at Jiribam and other hill towns located along the 222 km long route (Imphal-Jiribam).Fortunately no untoward incident was reported till the report goes to the press.
Meanwhile Churachandpur district headquarters also witnessed closure of markets, business establishments and educational institutions as the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the anti-tribal bills observed Thursday on August 31 as the 2nd anniversary of the historic day that brought the indigenous tribal people in Manipur together as they raised their voices for the protection of the ancestral land, rights and identity.
