Dimapur, July 9 (EMN): Forty-one legislators on Sunday issued a collective statement demanding chief minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu to step down “as he has lost the democratic mandate of the elected representatives of the 12th house of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly”.
They accused Liezietsu of ‘forcefully clinging’ to the chair of chief minister with the support of just ten MLAs in a house of 60. “At the outset, he is not an elected representative of the house. However, the members of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly have graciously made him the chief minister for a period of only six months.
“But during this short period, his true colours of power mongering and nepotism has been completely exposed and his greediness for power is something that is in total contravention to the very concept of the Indian democracy”, the statement read.
They also claimed that the suspension of NPF legislators and axing of ministers and parliamentary secretaries by the chief minister, who is also the NPF president, was ‘undemocratic and inconceivable methods of a dictator’.
They have appealed “to the respected people of Nagaland to kindly bear with us as we are actively processing the formation of a popular government at the earliest” while claiming that “our sole aim and objective is to deliver to the people’s needs”.
The signatories were TR Zeliang, Y Patton, Kaito Aye, Dr N Kire, Deo Nukhu, Tokheho Yepthomi, EE Pangteang, C Kipili Sangtam, S Hukavi Zhimomi, CM Chang, Namri Nchang, Dr Benjongliba Aier, Dr Longriniken, Kropol Vitsu, Zhaleo Rio, Sheotoyi, E Eshak Konyak, L Khumo Khiam, Nuklotoshi, SI Jamir, Neiba Kronu, Pukhayi Sumi, Kejong Chang, Naiba Konyak, S Pangnyu Phom, C Apok Jamir, Imkong Imchen, Imtikumzuk, Tovihoto Ayemi, Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu, Merentoshi R Jamir, BS Nganglang, Vikho-o Yhoshu, Pohwang, Thomas Ngullie, Amenba Yaden, S Chuba Longkumer, Er Picto Shohe, YM Yollow Konyak, Er Levi Rengma and Toyang Changkong Chang.
