24 hours public curfew from July 29 midnight: JCILPS Manipur
IMPHAL, JULY 29: The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has called 24 hours ‘public curfew’ from Friday midnight in protest against the police action which prevents proposed holding of a public meeting at Singjamei in Imphal on Friday.
The Convenor in charge of JCILPS BK Moirangcha made an announcement during a press conference here in this regard on Friday.
The JCILPS which had been demanding introduction of a mechanism to protect the interest of the local people of Manipur as done in three NE states-Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram, plans to hold a public meeting to discuss ongoing inner line permit issue in the state in association with another Joint Action Committee at Singjamei area on Friday.
However police prevented them from doing so as part of enforcing the prohibitory orders in Imphal East district, sources in Imphal said.
Protection of Manipur People Bill, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill and Manipur Shops andEstablishments(Second Amendment) Bill were passed by the Assembly in August last year after the widespread public outcry for implementation of inner-line permit in the state.
