IMPHAL, July 30: The 24-hour ‘public curfew’ in Manipur has once again affected the normal life in the state today.
The ‘public curfew’ which came into force from Friday midnight was called by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) in protest against police action preventing holding of a public meeting to discuss the ongoing ILP stir in the State at Singjamei here on Friday. However police said they stopped them from doing so as part of enforcing prohibitory orders in Imphal East District.
In view of the strike, the vehicular movement except few essentials and law enforcing agencies, in almost all the state and national highways besides the state capital routes, were off the road from dawn to dusk.
The market in and around Imphal also wore deserted look while shop keepers and other business establishments besides private and government offices, also down their shutters during the day.
Though there reports of blocking some of the important routes by the public curfew supporters in sections of the state roads, there is no major report of any unwanted incidents till the report goes to the press.
