Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has announced the creation of a new district called Siang in the northeastern state, a government statement said on Saturday.
Carved out of the East Siang district, Siang is the 20th district of the state.
Tuki laid the foundation stone of the new district secretariat at district headquarters Pangin on Friday, the statement said.
“Siang being the youngest child deserves more care from the government and we are committed to provide all support to make it a model district,” Tuki said before a public gathering at Pangin town.
Pangin, about 60 km from Pasighat, the headquarters of the East Siang district, is situated at a point where Siyom river meets Siang river.
Stating that sufficient funds would be provided for infrastructural development in the district, the chief minister sanctioned Rs.25 crore (Rs.250 million) for the district secretariat building, Rs.3 crore for residential buildings, Rs.5 crore for a mini stadium, Rs.2 crore for a school building, Rs.7 crore for a district hospital and Rs.3 crore for horticulture development among others.
Tuki also appreciated the contributions of state Education Minister Tapang Taloh for the creation of the district.
On his part, Taloh said the new district would fulfil a long cherished dream of the Adi community of the state.
