Wokha, June 24 (EMN): The first open volleyball tournament in Wokha culminated on Saturday, June 24 with Rising Club claiming the men’s title beating ENPO while Morashan emerged as the winner in women’s category beating Rachan Women Club.
The closing function was graced by President Wokha District Entrepreneurs’ Association (WDEA) Z. Ponathung Kikon as the special guest.
Kikon in his speech shared his sports experience where he accounted that as a former president of Etsutchukha Youth League (EYL) he had experienced losing matches and those experiences, he said taught him winning the hearts of the crowd and fans lifted them. He therefore conveyed gratitude to the organisers and volleyball enthusiasts who supported to keep the spirit of the sport while persuading them to make this event happen every year.
He congratulated the four final teams and wished them luck while articulating ‘opportunity does not belong to everyone or never come twice and one has to take risk and focus on the basics that has brought them to the finals through their efforts and potentials’.
Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH) president, Mhonchumi Humtsoe called on the gathering to witness the game with good motive and encourage the younger generation and promote their talents.
Through sports and social activities she wish the people and the society to come closer with understanding, where she thanked the EYL for organising the first open volley ball tournament in the district on the theme “Unity through Sports”.
Earlier Associate Pastor, Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC) S Thungrio Khuvung invoked Gods’ blessing while EYL President Chanbemo Humtsoe welcomed the gathering. A special number was presented by Chumchanbei M Kithan.
Lima from Rising Club was awarded the Best player of the tournament.
