12th Imchaba memorial volleyball trophy underway

Mokokchung, Sep. 26 (EMN): The 12th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volley Trophy got underway today with Toshizenba, Senior Treasury officer Mokokchung as the chief guest at Multi-purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung Town.
Altogether 17 teams from in and outside the district are participating in the three-day tournament organised by Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA). The event is scheduled to culminate on September 29.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, the chief guest said the key to success is to abide by the rules and regulation of the game and becoming a disciplined player. He also added that nothing can be achieved without hard work, saying that there is no substitute for hard labour.
“A determined hardworking person can even snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Therefore, nothing is impossible, if the efforts are put in the right direction backed by strong will and zeal and achieved by noble means,” said Toshizenba while encouraging the players. Saying victory and defeat are the two sides of the same coin, the officer also said a good player always learns lessons from every defeat, adding, it is important that there is more joy and pleasure in playing than in its result.
He further appealed the participating teams to keep in mind that victory or defeat should not discourage to end their profession but rather boast their moral to do better in future.
He also congratulated the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) for the smooth and successful conduct of the volleyball tourney in recognition of great leader late Imchaba for the continuous 12 years without any interruption and the also the family members of late Imchaba for their support toward the successful conduct of the trophy.
The chief guest also opened the first match between defending champion Lakhuni Sporting Club ‘B’ and Poala Club Tzutikong. The match was won by Lakhuni Sporting Club ‘B’ 25-17; 25-20; 25-23.
Earlier, Dr Zulu Jamir, Associate Pastor, Kumlong Baptist Church offered the invocation and welcome address was tendered by Lima Aier, Convener.
A MDVA official informed that this year’s Champion will receive a total cash of Rs. 70000/-, first runner-up Rs. 50000/-, second runner-up Rs. 25000/- and third runner-up Rs. 15000/- respectively. Individual prizes include: Best Spiker, Best Setter and Man of the tournament.
MDVA official also disclosed that teams from outside the district are given travelling allowance and also participating teams are given a grant of Rs. 5000/- each.

Sporting Club Mongkolemba beat Evergreen Club Ungma 25-23; 25-21; 25-17.
Friends United Club Chakpa ‘A’ beat Kumlong Sporting Association 25-17; 25-19; 25-18.
Young’s United Club (FAC Campus) beat Supongmeren Memorial Club Molungkimong 25-16; 25-11; 22-25; 25-16.
Tongden Club Chungtia ‘A’ beat Friends United Club Chakpa ‘B’ 25-11; 25-19; 25-20.
